The Texas Success Initiative is a state law designed to
make sure that each student taking college level academic coursework is
"College Ready". The law covers three specific areas - reading,
writing, and math. According to the law, a student may show "College
Readiness" by meeting one of the exemptions listed below.

ACT – Must meet 23 composite and math of 19 and/or English of 19 (composite must be met otherwise 19’s don’t matter).

SAT – Must meet 1070 total and math of 500 and/or verbal of 500 (total must be met otherwise 500’s don’t matter)
You may qualify you for partial exemptions. This means you can be exempt from taking the Math portion or the ELA portion.
If you are NOT exempt,
you will be required to take the TSI before you can take college level
courses. If you have partial exemption, you may take courses in the
area that you are exempt (example: Exempt from the reading and writing,
you could take a history class but not a math class).
For Dual Credit purposes, students
may have Eligibility scores which function just like the exemption
status. However, these eligibility scores are only good for dual credit
purposes and good only while the student is still concurretly enrolled
in high school. The following English II and Algebra I scores do NOT work as exemptionns after a student graduates from high school.
ELIGIBIITY SOCRES FOR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS:
*English II STAAR EOC - 3750 (the level 2 final recommended scores)
*Algebra I STAAR EOC - 3500 (the level 2 final recommended score) AND a passing grade in the Algebra II course.
IF YOU ARE A GRADUATING SENIOR, YOU MAY BE EXEMPT ONLY BASED ON ACT OR SAT SCORES FROM THE TSI.
